Empties #19

Once again my empty supplies has built up so I thought I'd share how I got on with some products which I haven't included in an empties post before.

Olay Beauty Fluid - Day
Olay is a brand which has been around since forever so you know you're in safe hands with them. This moisturiser is beautifully light, sinks into skin leaving it baby soft and smells amazing. It isn't the cheapest moisturiser but it certainly is still affordable and worth the extra few pennies in my opinion.

Lucas' Papaw Ointment
Similar to the 8 hour cream by Elizabeth Arden but for a third of the price, my heart broke a little when this tube ran out as I can't find it anywhere to buy in Scotland. VERY luckily, I actually received another one in this months Glossybox! As if they knew! (you can see what else I got in that Glossybox here)

Polaar Ice Pure Gentle Scrub with Artic Cotton
This is another item which I got from a beauty subscription box which I've really enjoyed using. It really was a gentle scrub with tiny balls to help exfoliate your face without being too harsh. I used every 3 days so or but it was definately gentle enough to use every day if desired.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Matte Powder
I cannot remember a time when I didn't use this powder. At the moment my skin is looking alright so on an every day basis I no longer bother with foundation but use this to help reduce my shine and red cheeks. It's got a great amount of coverage without looking really cakey. It is also quite slim compared to other compacts and has a mirror on the inside making it perfect for travel and top-ups during the day.

Ground Chocolate Orange Body Scrub
I think my favourite from all the empties...I can't get enough of this scrub! It smells A-MA-ZING!!!! It also leaves your skin feeling the most soft that it'll have felt since you were literally a baby. Since I started this bag Boots has started selling it so I'll be picking up another on my next visit.

Let me know what empties you've used up recently or if you've tried any of the above.

Life Update

So recently I got some very exciting life changing news which has taken up a lot of my time and maybe been the result in the lack of time I've spent on here. Basically, I've been cheating on beauty with homeware becayse...I bought a flat!!!

I have finally bought my own place and I couldn't be more excited! All the years of living with my parents to save money have paid off and I'm officially a home owner. The flat is still being built so I've got until September to prepare myself and get everything I need. This means that there'll probably be a few homeware hauls coming on here soon which I'm really looking forward too...and hopefully you are too?!

If you have any homeware posts/recommendations then please leave them below. As I go through the process of buying a place I realise I don't have a clue what I'm doing which can make it very daunting so any advice would be very appreciated.

May's Glossybox & Birchbox

For this month's Glossybox and Birchbox reviews I thought I would combine them into the same post to make it easier to compare the two.

First up, Birchbox;

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow - Vanilla Frosting - RRP £14.49
Luckily we got to choose between two shades and I went for Vanilla Frosting as I already had the other one. I've not opened this one yet as they can often be quite messy but this looks like it'll be a great shadow to highlight the brow bone and inner corner of the eye

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara - RRP £18 (for the full size)
This is a Birchbox exclusive and I'm always excited to try a new mascara. The brush is massive so I'm not sure how I'll get on but I'll give it a go and let you know

Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - RRP £8 (for the full size)
What a mouthful that name is and quite frankly I don't understand it. However, I like any product which I can apply with a cotton pad and not have to wash off so I think it'll be easy to incorporate this into my skincare routine. It claims to clear and calm skin so I may wait until I'm having a break out before trying this one out

Beauty Protector Protect & Volume - RRP £18.50 (for the full size)
I have another product by this brand which I'm yet to get round to trying so I still have no expectations of the brand. Having said that, anything that claims to give volume is alright by me!

Whish Firming Body Cream - RRP £27 (for the full size)
Again this is a brand which I've received in previous beauty boxes and I enjoyed it previously. The packaging doesn't blow me away and make me think it's worth £27 but that doesn't change what's on the inside so I'm still looking forward to trying this

And now, Glossybox;

Scrub Love Active Charcoal Body Scrub - RRP £13.95 (for the full size)
I absolutely LOVE body scrubs like this as they really do leave your skin feeling silky soft. I've not tried this brand before but I've just run out of my current body scrub so will crack this open soon. I also love using charcoal products on the skin as I think they're great at clearing the skin from toxins and giving it a really good, deep clean

Dr PawPaw Original Balm - RRP £6.95
This is the product which I'm most happy about from both boxes as my current tube of this, which I got in Australia, is about to run out and I can't find it anywhere in Edinburgh! So, as I was about to give up hope I received it in this months box. So happy!

Ruby Powder Blush in Coral - RRP €14.99
It's been a while since I used a powder blush as I'm having a love affair with a cream blush I got in a Glossybox months ago but this one may change that for me. The shade of this is just beautiful and seems perfect for Summer

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet - RRP £23 (for the full size)
Everyone know that Caudalie is a great skincare brand so I'm very excited to try this out. The fact this is called a sorbet makes me love it even more so I can't wait to try this out. My only fear is I'll love it too much and have to buy a full size, which is much more expensive than my usual moisturiser!

Daily Concepts - RRP £4
I love that this has two sides to it, a softer and rougher side, which means you can alter it for different parts of your body making this even more versatile than an ordinary exfoliator. Using this along with the scrub will definitely mean my skin will be Summer ready!

So, between the two boxes my favourite would be Glossybox this month as it has three full size items and I'm genuinely excited about all the products. Birchbox has my favourite designed box that I've received yet and think it just looks beautiful.

If you received any beauty boxes then leave a comment letting me know what you thought of them and if you have any recommendations!

Empties #18

Recently I've been making an effort to use up products which I've already got or items which I've received in my beauty subscription boxes. It was just too tempting to constantly be picking up new products almost every time I was in Boots just because I wanted to try it out or really liked the packaging (I'm every marketers dream!) so I really focused on using things up which I have and haven't only saved a good few pounds but also discovered a few new favourites.

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage
This was a mini which I got with a MAC order and by the end of the small tube I loved it. It felt really smooth going on to the skin and make-up sat on top beautifully. It didn't dry out my skin or increase the oiliness either so a very good all-rounder for all skin types I think.

Jane Iredale Smooth Affair
Another primer which I've used up. This one was from September's Birchbox and was incredible. This really did brighten my skin up and get incredible on the skin. It's a fairly expensive products so I won't be repurchasing anytime soon purely down to a tightened budget but if money wasn't an issue this would be top of my list.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat
This was from September's Glossybox and it has been my favourite top coat ever. Its a thick top coat which almost gives your nails a shellac appearance and really helps the varnish last a very long time. It also makes them extremely shiny!

Nuxe Multi-Purpose Dry Oil
I used this on my body only and my goodness what a delight it was. It didn't leave the skin feeling too oily but beautifully soft. It smelt incredible and just felt really luxurious. A little really went a long way so well worth spending a little more for such a beautiful item.

Anatomicals Under Eye Patches
I think I got these off ASOS in the sale. I really like the brand Anatomicals and while I enjoyed using these I'm honestly not sure if they made a great deal of difference. However, they were easy to use and felt very cooling and moisturisng so I would still use them again.

Let me know what you've used up recently and what you thought!
